Shops In London
Today I’d like to share some prized knowledge by telling you all about London’s coolest vintage shops. Amazing second hand shops with clothing from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s for unbelievable prices! Below you’ll find a shopping haul video in which I go through each item of clothing I bought, recounting some of my experiences from my recent trip to London. In the rest of the post I’ll outline the shops I visited, including why you should check them out too. Now then, let’s talk vintage!
London’s Coolest Vintage Shops
The first store I’ll be discussing is a sweet little second hand shop called “Good”. From what I remember the store was full of all sorts of vintage articles, from the 50’s to today. I found the shirt that I’m wearing in the men’s aisle on sale, tried it on and immediately knew it was coming home with me. Tom, my amazing partner, saw how much I loved the shirt and insisted on paying for it, lucky old me. It’s a rugby shirt made out of 100% cotton. The shoulder area looks like the UK flag and the bottom part of the shirt is broadly striped in blue, red, and white. I only went to the Neal Street shop but I was told that there are other branches, in Kensington and Queensway, and that both are worth a visit.
The next item is one of my favourites and it comes from a magical shop called Goldsmith Vintage. This amazing place is two floors of vintage, the lower floor being chock-full of payettes, beads, and weaved fabrics that made me wish I could come here every day. I think this shirt is perfect for Christmas and New Year’s. The external part is 100% silk, on top of which sits a lovely work of payettes and beads. I actually had to fix this up a bit (if you have any tips for preserving this kind of thing on a shirt I’d love to hear them)…to make a long story short, I’m in love!
The next two articles come from a vintage market on Brick Lane – Brick Lane Vintage. It’s a spacious underground market, with dozens of vendors and mountains of vintage clothes from a bunch of different decades and even centuries. Burberry stands, reclaimed vintage stands, stands with hidden treasures from the 20’s or the 19th century or the 70’s or the 80’s, record stands, and so, so much more to see and discover. The market is in an area that comes highly recommended regardless. There’s a cute cafe there, Cafe 1001, and I wholeheartedly recommend having some coffee and breakfast there. There’s also a second hand record store nearby, Rough Trade East, which I also suggest checking out.
Going by the receipt, I bought the dress I’m wearing in this picture at a stall called isalvageclothing, but looking online I couldn’t find a website or any details at all about the vendor, so I can’t tell if this is useful information at all. On the flipside the skirt I’m wearing was at the same market, from magpievintageclothing, and though I see zero relation between the place I physically visited and the website I found, it does seem to hold some cool things (more reclaimed vintage than actual vintage like the stall, but still). The dress I bought cost around £40, it’s made out of 100% silk, and comes to us from the distant 80’s. It’s fuchsia pink with puffy sleeves and a silhouette that plainly reveals when it was made.
I found this amazing skirt at one of the stalls. It’s a maxi skirt from the 70’s made out of 100% wool with a print that reminds me of the movie Clueless. I like wearing it with tall platform shoes which add some height and prevent it from trailing on the ground, as well as a black shirt, and some silver jewellery to give it a cool, punky look.
This stunning dress was found at one of my favourite stores in London, Rokit, mostly thanks to their wonderful online storefront which offers unique and rare second hand vintage clothes for great prices. Rokit is a chain of Londonian vintage stores with four branches (so far). Each branch has a massive selection of fashion from every decade since the middle of the last century. This dress is from the sixties which you can totally tell from its shape. It’s made out of 100% wool in pink and navy blue, and there’s really nothing else to say. It’s spectacular.
Something I didn’t show in the video is a record I got at a Mancusian store called Record Revival. It was a The Kooks record and it was bought the day before we went to see their show celebrating 15 years since the release of “Inside In/Inside Out” and I am so happy I have it today!
