Hello everyone So – I have had the c-r-a-z-i-e-s-t four months!!! I moved in with my boyfriend, I was officially diagnosed with endometriosis, I designed sets and costumes for the musical “Where’s Lora?”, I took part in an amazing dream project in which I designed a space for the “The Spark” exhibition, I flew to Prague for a Christmas trip, and we moved Oliver, our beloved cat, to our new apartment (and it’s already been a week). I am so grateful for all this good, all the opportunities and the little bubble of happiness I’ve created over the last few months. As we reach the end of the year, I want to take a moment to tell you about my experience designing for the musical “Where’s Lora?”, even if it’s a little late. My first meeting with Dubi, director and playwright, was on the 4th of August. From that moment I started to put together a concept for the costumes and stage design of this magical show. It’s a hodgepodge of different worlds: Twin Peaks – a small American town in which Lora goes missing. Edward Scissorhands – the pastel suburbs, plastic-y world, clean and perfect. Rocky Horror Picture Show – with its crazy world of monsters, sex, and glam. Inspiration included the music of Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Queen, Elvis, and David Bowie, among others. I wanted the stage design to recall the language of recording studios from the 60s and 70s, and I tried to create a hybrid between interior, stage, and a studio design, of the period, and that’s how I arrived at the world of partitions and finally the current configuration – one that I’m simply in love with.
The zombies were a challenge, too. I wanted to get away from the classic image of the zombie and give them a different voice – glam zombies. Shining, sparkling, neon-bleeding. Zombies whose skeleton is made of pearls, and their blood glitter. It was a challenging project; very messy, poor communication, low budget, insane deadlines. But all along I felt like there was something special here. I fell in love with the idea of a manager/cult leader bringing dead rockstars back to life. I knew the idea had endless depth and potential! And this is exactly where I like to be: the worlds of glam, camp, and rock’n’roll.
I got to work with some amazing creators, and I wanna give them a huuuuge shout out because each and every one of them gave this project heart, talent, and incredibly energy! Shiraz Rimon – musician, composer, bass player and an incredibly talented artist. Elad Yishay – composer and energetic keybard player, insane multitasker and super talented musician. Yarden Sharony – choreographer and, first & foremost, magical human being. Full of passion, curiosity and a contagious energy. It was a pleasure to watch you work and I would be delighted to work with you again in the future! Dan Glazer – legendary lighting director (in my eyes at the very least), who did a brilliant job on the lighting and brought the stage and costume design to a whole new level. Michal Budnerner—the wonderful Assistant Director. And of course – the amazing actors: Bar Cohen Morad – who played Nancy, with nuance and emotion, a young woman looking for confidence and self esteem who finds it through music. Guy Ron – who played Bob, a wonderful singer with hilarious comedic timing that had me crying with laughter! Gali Ashkenazi Levine – who played Nanacy’s mother Jessica, in a performance both funny and touching. Elio Ben Ze’ev – as zombie Freddie Mercury, whose performance was so impressive in every aspect it left me without words (seriously – go watch it! you’ll get it). Adir Bakshi – hilarious and precise as zombie Elvis Presley. Lee Belisha – as zombie Marilyn Monroe, a wonderful actress and singer. Sagi Shulman – zombie John Lennon who joined the cast at the last minute and did some great, impressive work, in a very short time! Yuval Biran – as zombie Michael Jackson, which I had the pleasure of designing and then seeing you bring the character to life on stage with every movement.
And finally – a huge thank you to the brilliant creators Daniel D. Duvilanski and Ron Bigman who worked around the clock, handpicked a super talented team, and created a sincerely special show. The hard work and enormous heart that you put into this production are evident. The next show is on 14.1.26, go see it! You won’t regret it! I highly recommend starting off your year with this insane, inspirational show!
