Tom's picks a Gift Guide
For The Holiday Season 2022
Hi everyone, today I’ll be sharing the sequel to my 2022 holiday gift guide. Black Friday may already be behind us but there’s still time to buy presents for our loved ones and there are still sales to come as we approach Christmas and New Year’s. I feel like my list is mostly aimed at women (obviously not necessarily, but still), so I wanted to expand it a bit with some stuff that men would like, too, and I asked Tom to make a list of things he likes and can recommend as a gift.
As we celebrate this magical time of the year, this time to cuddle up with a hot drink and a book, this time to wear a sweater and go out and mark the new year with our friend, I hope this list can inspire your choices for gifts for your loved ones (or yourself if you feel like spoiling yourself!). I’ll be adding links for everything and I hope you enjoy the list. Without any further ado, here is Tom’s Holiday 2022 Gift Guide:
Fashion
1 – Hario Starter Set – A couple of years ago I bought Hario’s starter set for Sapir and myself. It comes with a plastic V60 brewer, a pot for the coffee, and a bag of filters. Pretty much everything you need to get brewing, except…
2 – Timemore C2 Manual Grinder – As long as your coffee needs do not include espresso I strongly recommend buying a manual grinder and grinding your beans right before you actuallyy brew them. There is no better way to keep them fresh. TImemore’s C2 is a fantastic value for its price.
3 – Coffee Scale – Not quite as necessary but very useful for anyone trying to get their brewing recipe more precise.
4 – Wallet – Sapir bought me this wallet for my birthday last year and it is fantastic.
5 – Glencairn – Beautiful whisky glass. I personally really like it.
6 – Earthsea Cycle – Over the past few months I’ve read four of the six books in Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea cycle. I strongly recommend reading each and every one of them. Pictured here is an illustrated collection of the series – not the edition I read but absolutely beautiful.
7 – The Great Ace Attorney – A game that’s mostly about reading. Anyone who likes detective stories will enjoy this greatly. Interesting story and fun characters who are very easy to love.
8 – The World Atlas of Coffee – James Hoffmann is a coffee expert and past winner of the World Barista Championship. His book is full of knowledge, tips, and trivia that will interest even those with only a passing interest in coffee.
9 – On the Technique of Acting – A companion book to Michael Chekov’s ‘To the Actor’. These days there’s actually an edition that includes a lot of this books material in To the Actor, but the originally published version was rather heavily edited and didn’t include everything Chekov wanted to include. The explanations in the book are (rather) easily understood and the exercises are great. An excellent choice for anyone trying to deepend their understanding of the craft of acting.
10 – A Room of One’s Own – A piece of feminist non-fiction by Virginia Woolf which should be required reading. It will always be relevant. Everyone can only gain from reading this work, whether it be from the substance of the topics Woolf discusses or just the beauty of the language through which she weaves her themes and ideas.
